Recipe Idea: Creamy Pasta with Ham and Broccoli

There are days when I feel adventurous and energetic in the kitchen that I end up with experimental dishes. I cook with no recipes on-hand and step-by-steps to follow. I just think of what the output of the dish should be and get on with it.

Yesterday was one of those days. I cooked Creamy Pasta with Ham and Broccoli. What actually brought me into cooking this dish is the fact that I have to consume the broccoli already before it goes bad or rotten in our vegetable compartment. Broccoli has a short shelf life and I don’t want to be wasting money since it is expensive here in the city! 🙁

Cream based pasta are actually easy to make. And I love creamy dishes that’s why I love how this experimental dish end up. I was tensed while cooking it. Good thing it went well.

The Creamy Pasta Sauce!

How to cook Creamy Pasta with Ham and Broccoli

What you need:

500g pasta
1 tbsp of olive oil
1 tbsp of vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
4 slices of ham (I used CDO sliced ham for this recipe), cut into small squares
1 small broccoli, blanched and chopped
Salt and pepper
Chopped Basil Leaves
Chili flakes, if preferred
1 can of Jolly Cream of Mushroom

  1. Cook the pasta in boiling water with salt and a tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  2. While the pasta is cooking, heat another pan with 1 tbsp of olive oil.
  3. Cook the chopped onion for a minute then put in the ham. Let it cook for 5 minutes (or if you prefer it a bit toasted, you may do so) over medium heat.
  4. Pour a can of Jolly Cream of Mushroom and let it simmer for 10 minutes over low-medium heat.
  5.  Put the chopped broccoli florets into the sauce and cover for a minute or 2, then add in chopped basil leaves and chili flakes.
  6. Salt and Pepper to taste.
  7. Toss in the cooked Pasta on the creamy sauce. Serve while hot.

Simple and easy, right?

I overestimated the amount of serving and it is way too much for me and my husband, so I shared it also to my in-laws. This recipe serves 3-5 pax already. Happy cooking and eating! 🙂

  1. Kaity

  2. That looks delish! and yes, 500g is a lot. It’s usually two meals for me and my husband when we have 450g. 🙂 Minsan may pang baon pa.

  3. Ooooh that’s yummy! Yes, looks simple and easy!

  4. That looks delicious! My son is a fan of both pasta and broccoli so it seems like a win-win recipe!

  5. Looks yum! Must try it soon! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  6. I have cooked this but without the broccoli. Might just need to make one again this time with the veggie 🙂 Perfect dish to introduce broccoli to my kids.

  7. Lady Anne Louise Barrun

I love pasta but I’m not a fan of broccoli. Seeing your final product, I think I will try this.

  8. I love cream-based pasta too! And the son is a fan of pasta so I cook it often. We usually just use tuna or chicken. I never thought of adding broccoli though. I’ll try that soon 🙂

  9. Looks delicious! I do something similar, but instead of broccoli I use peas.

  10. Brocoli in pasta… sounds good! 🙂 Will also try this one. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  11. Mommy Queenelizabeth

That looks good! I love pasta recipes! My kind of comfort food! Will that brocoli on it! 🙂

    1. Mommy Queenelizabeth

I mean **will try that brocoli

  12. this looks yum! If I ever have one kitchen skill to master, it will be to create pasta in 101 ways! I hope i can try your recipe soon!

  13. This creamy pasta reminds me of home! We always have this one for Christmas, making use of the many hams we received as gift. The fact that it has broccoli makes it healthy too. Great recipe!

  14. When I read creamy, I thought of white sauce. Una kong naisip, hindi ko type kasi ayoko talaga ng white sauce. Tapos iyon pala, you used mushroom sauce, eh iyon, gusto ko! The last picture showing your pasta as served looks so yummy and enticing!

  15. Laveena Sengar

The pictures make it look really yummy. I am vegetarian so will have to move some edits with the recipe. I am a total broccoli lover❤

  16. I’m reading this post right exactly when my tummy is yelling for food! huhu! I should be going down and grabbing something to eat after this, lol! This one looks really yummy and tasty! I think I can manage to cook this, haha. I’m not good in kitchen.

  17. The pasta looks really yummy. I agree, oftentimes, i get to experiment with my cooking just because there were some vegetables inside the ref that I dont want wasted. As it turned out, my boys would love the new dish and from then on, I would serve that once in a while.

Would love to try your pasta as well and see if the boys would appreciate it. But I guess they will. they also love brocolli.

  18. Yummmm! I love Carbonara! Never tried it with Broccoli though so I’ll definitely be saving this recipe. Hopefully I’ll be able to try this soon ???

  19. Broccoli? Hmmm. It’s a first. I think this is a great alternative to the usual carbonara recipes we all know. But broccoli? I think you must be a person living a healthy lifestyle. 😀

  20. My wife loves to cook too when she’s in the mood. And because she’s pregnant and always hungry, she’s always in the mood.So far, all that my wife and househelp made tastes great. If they invented a recipe, they would name it pacham short for Pachamba. But seriously, that cream pasta looks yummy. What’s the difference of the taste between that and a carbonara?

    1. This dish for me is a bit saltier maybe because of the ham and the cream of mushroom being tasty enough. 🙂 By the way, may your wife have a safe pregnancy. I hope she’s not having weird cravings that will leave you with no choice but to go out of the house to buy the food she’s requesting…in the midnight hour! Hehe

    2. And also, this dish is also Pacham! Haha! I love experimenting.

  21. Wow I love pasta and yours looking amazing which I’m sure it also taste crazy good from the looks of it. I love that you made it so creamy and especially the ham!

  22. This recipe looks easy to follow so I want to try making this dish. I love that it has broccoli and ham. I would change the recipe a bit though. I think I’ll blanch the broccoli and put it last so that the nutrient and crunchiness is retained somehow. As for the cream of mushroom, we usually buy Campbell’s so I’ll use that instead.

    1. I agree. I usually blanche broccolis, too, so that the crisp and its taste are maintained. Happy cooking! 🙂

  23. Thank you for this awesome recipe. I started getting hungry because of this post. I’ll try this with my friends or my mom. Your pictures looks delicious!

Let me hear your precious thoughts! :)
